Regular Health Check-ups
This does not mean only eye check-ups (although those are necessary too), but also full health check-ups. In others words, test yourself for diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure to name a few. These health conditions play a significant part in the your vision, and those who are afflicted need to take better care of themselves as they are more prone to complications. This is particularly an issue when one hits old age, as the body begins to deteriorate and is less capable of bouncing back like it once used to. If you have a family history of any of these diseases, get yourself checked immediately.
Eat a Balanced Diet
Actually this helps with a lot more than sustained vision, but if you are aiming for healthier eyesight as the end goal, then look for foods that are especially helpful for this purpose. Dark, leafy greens for instance are fantastic, as is Vitamin A and Omega-3 rich foods. Salmon, grains and fruits are also highly recommended. Also, eating them for, say, a week is not sufficient. You need to maintain this diet consistently, perhaps with the aid of a nutritionist who can plan it out effectively for you. Your body will have the nutrients it needs to fight against eye disease and eye strain.
Change Your Prescription
If you wear glasses or contact lenses, then you need to check on your prescription and make sure it is updated as it needs to be. Some people visit the eye doctor once in a blue moon and get by with their last prescription for a long time even though it might no longer even be applicable. This is a very bad habit since it strains your eyes and causes other issues as a result. You should never use glasses that force you to exert more energy. You should be able to see effortlessly, so if you no longer do, then it is a glaring sign that you need to change your prescription immediately.
